How the C-arm Improves Cup Positioning
Preetesh D. Patel, MD, from Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston, Florida, has been performing total hip arthroplasty (THA) through the direct anterior approach for the last 5 years.
In that time, he has learned the value of using a C-arm intraoperatively to improve acetabular cup positioning, allowing him to perform “as near a perfect total hip arthroplasty as I can.”
He says the C-arm:
- Is easy to use because the patient is already supine for a direct anterior approach THA
- Allows him to ensure restoration of biomechanics
- Is cost-effective
- Provides peace of mind and limits outliers – he knows what the final result is when he walks out of the OR
In an interview with ICJR, Dr. Patel discusses his use of the C-arm. Click the images below to hear his comments.
