What the Literature Says about TXA in Joint Replacement Patients

Yan Lai, MD, an anesthesiologist with Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, presented on the use of antifibrinolytic drugs such as tranexamic acid (TXA) in joint replacement surgery at last year’s annual meeting of the American Society Anesthesiologists (ASA).

We caught up with him at the ASA meeting and asked him about the literature on the benefits of TXA in this patient population, as well as the TXA protocol followed at his institution.
